Dancers and instrumental musicians are highly skilled artist-athletes with physical demands that can contribute to injury. These artist’s benefit from innovative technologies and techniques to manage common soft tissue injury to be able to return to dancing and playing efficiently. This webinar will discuss three innovative technologies to accentuate techniques for care of the performing artist. Instrument assisted soft-tissue mobilisation (IASTM), mechanically-assisted myofascial release, and Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy (Focused Shockwave) will be discussed including a brief overview of each technology including physiological mechanism, precautions/contraindications, and common injury uses in this patient population.
We will have a 20-30 minute presentation from Andrea Lasner followed by an interactive Q&A session. In this webinar we will:

Andrea N. Lasner is currently a physical therapist and clinical specialist for the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Outpatient Rehabilitation Network Clinic for Performing Artists at the Peabody Institute, and The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Rehabilitation Network Clinic at Timonium. Dr. Lasner has experience working with orthopedic related injury and prevention programs for performing artists, including dancers and instrumentalists, as well as athletes at the collegiate and professional level.
Dr. Lasner presents annually at state, regional, national, and international conferences, such as the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, American Physical Therapy Association, Maryland Physical Therapy Association, Johns Hopkins Sports Medicine Symposia and CORPS de Ballet International. She has been co-author on several dance medicine research studies and is a committee member chair for the American Physical Therapy Association, Performing Arts Special Interest Group.
