John was the Director of Defence Rehabilitation for the UK Armed Forces for 10 years, responsible for the planning and delivery of rehabilitation services including musculoskeletal, neurological and trauma rehabilitation. He has been an active member of the FSEM (UK) Council and held the position of Vice President of the Faculty. He is currently working as a Medical Director at Pure Sports Medicine London. His clinical interests include bone health, sport and exercise medicine, exercise-based rehabilitation, rheumatology, and sero-negative arthritis.He has developed a complex trauma rehabilitation service for the battle casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan, that achieved a world-class reputation. Dr Etherington is the President of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK and was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2018.In his spare time, he enjoys playing cricket, reading particularly military and English history, theatre, music and family life.
