Dr Cosgrave graduated Medicine from Queen’s University Belfast in 2004 and after working for a year in Sydney, undertook an MSc in Sports & Exercise Medicine at Trinity College Dublin. He trained as a consultant in Sports & Exercise Medicine in Liverpool. He has a wealth of experience in elite sport having worked for two seasons at Liverpool Football Club from 2011-2013. He also provided medical cover at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and subsequently accompanied Team GB at their High Altitude Training Camp in Iten, Kenya. Other experience in elite sport includes basketball, Northern Ireland Football, athletics, karate and judo. Ciaran joined the IRFU in June 2016 having worked as Leinster Rugby Team Doctor from July 2014.
