Tom Wainwright is a physiotherapist, clinical academic and quality improvement specialist. He is Associate Professor in Orthopaedics and Deputy Head of the Orthopaedic Research Institute at Bournemouth University. Tom explained why he chose physio and how he came to move in to Orthopaedics and then research. He has a broad range of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal related research interests, and is internationally recognised for his work on Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) protocols within orthopaedics. Creating research with a real applied clinical impact is the core goal of his work and Tom gave some examples of this.
After a brief Fire Alarm evacuation, Tom explained his thoughts on the future of clinical research and how people should get involved if it is something they are considering.
