About Petra
Petra is a certified lymphoedema therapist, scar tissue therapist and holistic lifestyle coach. She started her healthcare journey in 2003 when she qualified as a Sports Massage Therapist, then in 2006 wanting to specialise in working with problematic scar tissue, she studied Postoperative and Post-Trauma Scar Massage at the Centre for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and the School of Orthopaedic Massage & Bodywork, Ann Arbor, Michigan. This training was developed especially for Petra so there is no-one else in the world with the same training!
As part of the training, she had to learn about the lymphatic system and completed parts 1 & 2 of Bruno Chikly’s Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT). However, this school wasn’t recognised in UK, so in 2008 she qualified in MLD/CDT through Klose Training in the Foeldi method of treating lymphoedema. And, every 2 years from 2011 attended the Foeldi Clinic in Germany to do her Advanced Update & Review CPD certification.
Petra has worked in both the NHS (St George’s Hospital & Ealing Hospital) and in private practice treating primary and secondary lymphoedema and helping people recover better after cosmetic and plastic surgery.
In 2012, she introduced and integrated MLD into the post-surgical care package of London Bridge Plastic Surgery, Wimpole Street, London. This was the first clinic in UK to offer MLD pre & postoperatively to all their surgical patients. Christopher Inglefield, owner, and medical director of the clinic states that MLD is non-negotiable for his patients and is a requirement for everyone having surgery at LPBS and the London Trans Clinic.
Petra set up her own clinics in 2015 in 108 Harley Street, the London Breast Clinic and in the Bridge Clinic in Maidenhead where she worked with cosmetic, plastic & reconstructive, and venous surgeons like Dr Laurence Kirwin, Fiona MacNeil, Dennis Wolf, Prof Mark Whiteley, Miss Dominica Predolac, Mr Maisam Fazel, Ms Sunita Shotria, to name a few.
From 2015 – 2017, Petra was contracted by the Parapet Breast Clinic, Windsor to provide a lymphoedema service for primary and secondary lymphoedema patients in East Berkshire.
Following the pandemic, Petra returned home to Northern Ireland in September 2020 and is currently working with three plastic surgeons in Belfast. Wanting to share her years of knowledge and experience, she has developed the Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Recovery training program so that therapists working with this patient group have increased knowledge and skills to feel more confident that the treatments they are providing are safe for their patients, complimenting and supporting their recovery. Not compromising it.
